Sunshine Coast Beach Volleyball is a not-for-profit crew of sand-loving locals, serving up good vibes since 2018 at stunning Mooloolaba Beach.

We’re all about getting more people into beach volleyball—whether you’re brand new, back for more, or chasing that competitive edge.

With weekly social comps and training for both juniors and adults, there’s always a game waiting for you.

We also look after the free public courts at Mooloolaba and Coolum —so grab a ball, rally some mates, and get down for a hit!

Powered by volleyball diehards, we’re here to grow the game and keep the fun flying.

President

Being a President is a really busy job - so is being a school teacher, program manager and head coach of the BALA Academy, a QLD Junior Mentor Coach and the highest qualified coach in Queensland. I’m actually SOOOO busy that I haven’t been able to get a blurb of why I love beach volleyball so much - so someone else had to do it.

I was introduced to beach volleyball in the late ’80s (!!) and have been well and truly hooked ever since. Once I got used to having sand in all sorts of places that I never thought it would go, I discovered that there is so much to love about this sport – teamwork, strategy, so many skills to master, the challenge of working with the elements, and the amazing tribe of down to earth, lovely people who choose to play the sport. More than 30 years later, and I am still loving it!

Vice President

I was born and bred on the Sunshine Coast and have been 1/2 of Breakfast Radio show Sam & Ash on 91.1 HOT FM since 2014.

A proud Dad, marine conservationist and sports enthusiast, my number one passion is beach volleyball. I love it and live it as a player, supporter and promoter – simply can’t get enough of it. I’m really proud to be in a position with SCBV to grow the sport on the Sunshine Coast and give everyone the chance to get the sand in their veins playing the greatest game on earth.

I picked up beach volleyball after moving to Australia and never looked back—indoor is great, but beach is just better. I love the game for its community vibes, the physical and mental challenge, and the unbeatable combo of sun, sand, and sport. While I love the challenge of playing at the state, national, and international levels, not much beats a group of mates, the beach, and some ‘friendly’ competition.

My love for beach volleyball starts from getting sand beneath my toes and sun above my head to playing games with good people and having skills to improve on constantly. Top that up with a post-game ocean swim and it’s impossible to beat this sport!

The Sunshine Coast beach volleyball community is one I’m so proud and excited to be part of. We have the perfect space and environment to play all year long!

“I’ve been doing this volleyball thing for over 33 years. It started off being about mates, then about climbing the mountain to be the best I could be. Along the way I found a family and it is now about sharing the wonderful gifts that this game has to offer – for personal, interpersonal and whole community benefit.”

Whilst enjoying life, having a surf, I saw some people on the beach playing  Volleyball! The rest is history, I fell in love instantly! I spent the next few years     learning the game and launched into competing on the State and National tours for the following 16 years. Along the way, I took up coaching indoor teams through the school system and coaching beach at various centres. I’ve now coached for over 15 years in both disciplines, but beach is the best!!!
